The historic Peabody Hotel is the centerpiece to the landscape of down town Memphis. The city itself seems as though it was built around this glorious 13-story building. The hotel is marked for its gorgeous marble-columned lobby and the resident ducks who make a daily appearance in the lobby fountain – a fun tradition held by the hotel since 1933. The rooms are elegant and still whisper feelings of the past however they are decked out in all of today’s modern luxuries.
We Simply Adore
The ducks! We simply adore the famous Peabody ducks. The Peabody Hotel is home to five (adorable) mallard ducks who parade to the lobby everyday at 11:00 a.m. Led by the “duckmaster,” the ducks make their way from their rooftop accommodations down to the lobby fountain for splish and splash. The Peabody rolls out the red carpet for their famous residents and play John Philip Sousa’s King Cotton March. Tourist and locals alike have enjoyed this unusual spectacle of live ducks frolicking in the lobby of a grand hotel for nearly 85 years.

Get The Dish
Chez Philippe, located in the lobby of the Peabody, holds title to being one of Memphis’ most outstanding fine dining restaurants, certainly not your average hotel kitchen. This award wining restaurant can hold it’s own amongst Memphis top destinations and attractions. Chez Philippe takes a modern approach to French cuisine with sharp presentation and classic décor that fits the style of food perfectly. The service is outstanding. The type of service you would expect in London or Paris. The servers knowledge of the food is impeccable while the sommelier will pair your wine perfectly with each course you order.
Here’s The Scoop
My husband surprised me with a romantic weekend at the Peabody for the second anniversary of my 29th birthday. It was magical. We arrived just in time for the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree in the grand lobby of the hotel. The air was filled with joy and cheer from the high spirits of the staff and guest. We dined at Chez Phillipe and I felt like a celebrity, treated to the finest food Memphis has to offer by highly trained chefs, servers, and sommeliers. Once in our room for the night, I sunk into the fluffy, plush luxury down comforter and slept like a queen. We rose to a divine breakfast in bed prepared by the master chefs of Chez Phillipe. As a final treat, my husband arranged a relaxing massage at Feathers Spa, the in house resort style spa located on the first floor of the hotel. There are so many exciting things to do and see in downtown Memphis. However, considering the luxuries never end once inside The Peabody Hotel, you might never want to leave.
